Migration from Maker (MKR) to Sky (SKY)
The MakerDAO (MKR) ecosystem is transitioning to Sky (SKY). SKY replaces MKR as the governance token of the protocol. Tangany will support the migration for all end customers holding MKR balances.
When does the migration happen?
The migration will be carried out until mid-September. To complete the conversion, trading platforms will temporarily suspend MKR trading. Please refer to the announcements of your trading platform for the exact timeline. After the conversion, SKY will appear in customer accounts in place of MKR, and trading for SKY will be opened. The migration will also be recorded in the transaction history.
How many SKY do customers receive?
The conversion rate is 1 MKR = 24,000 SKY. For example, a customer holding 0.1 MKR will receive 2,400 SKY tokens. All customer balances will be adjusted accordingly.
What if I don't want to take part in the migration?
If you do not wish to participate in the migration, you must have sold your MKR by the migration date. You will receive a separate message from your platform about the specific migration date.
What do customers need to do?
No action is required from customers. All MKR balances will be converted to SKY automatically. Please note that MKR trading will be paused for a short period of time before trading for SKY becomes available. For further information, please refer to the official upgrade portal.
Tax relevance of migration
Tangany cannot provide a final assessment of the tax classification of the migration process. If in doubt, please seek tax advice or, alternatively, use a common tax software tool for the crypto sector.
⚠️ Beware of Fraudulent Messages on Social Media
We have become aware of scams where unauthorized parties misuse the Tangany name to solicit payments or personal information via social media. Please note that Tangany will never contact customers directly on social media for financial transactions or any other form of investment. More information.
Important Update Regarding EOS (EOS)
In the context of the migration of the cryptocurrency EOS (EOS) to its successor Vaulta (A), trading of EOS is being suspended on several of our partner platforms at short notice. This means EOS will no longer be available for purchase or sale on those platforms.
Tangany will continue to hold EOS in secure custody for all customers. In addition, customers of our partner platforms will be able to withdraw their EOS to a personal wallet until at least the end of August 2025. Execution of such requests might take several weeks in light of the high demand. Please note that Tangany will not support the migration from EOS to Vaulta.
We are currently working with our partners to explore additional options beyond private wallet withdrawals.
Limitations on crypto transfers from Tangany to external trading platforms
Currently, transfers to deposit addresses of crypto exchanges/trading platforms cannot be supported due to the newly applicable Money Transfer Regulation (“Travel Rule”). A Transfer to a private wallet (self-custody) is generally possible. Please note, however, that after receiving the signed order, verification of your wallet will be required.
